Numbering starts from the first baseline, located at latitude 49º North (along the United States/Canada border). WebEast and West rows of townships are called TOWNSHIPS and are numbered consecutive north and south of the baseline DESIGNATION OF TOWNSHIPS An individual township is identified by its number north or south of the baseline, followed by the number east or west of the principal meridian.
