WebJun 29, 2024 · Paleoflood hydrology makes use of geomorphological and sedimentary records adjacent to a river and was formalized as a discipline in the 1980s to improve flood hazard assessments for the design of hydraulic structures (e.g., dams, nuclear power plants) built to withstand high-magnitude flood events (Kochel and Baker 1982; Baker 2008). WebOct 1, 2024 · This study uses paleoflood hydrology to examine a small portion of the underutilized, but very extensive natural record of Holocene extreme floods in the UCRB. We perform a meta-analysis of 82 extreme paleofloods from 18 slack water deposit sites in the UCRB to show linkages between Holocene climate patterns and extreme floods.
