WebThe Barrow ground squirrel, Spermophilus undulatus kennicotti Ross (= Citellus parryi barrowensis Merriam), is a resident of far northern Alaska in habitats where burrowing is possible during the summer months. It is active only five months of the year, first appearing above ground in early May, and rarely is seen after September 15.
