In the first experiment at FRIB, researchers smashed a beam of stable calcium-48 nuclei traveling at about 60 percent of the speed of light into a beryllium target. WebAs one of 28 DOE-SC user facilities, FRIB provides researchers with one of the most advanced tools of modern science to study rare isotopes, or short-lived nuclei not normally found on Earth.
